artist statement
Roy used to go to Queens college and lives in Queens. While in his freshman year of high school, he took a photoshop/computer art class which introduced him to digital art and dwell into the craft of it. The fact that there is so much technology available now to create and see different forms of media and art made him want to use those resources to express it through his own imagination. One of his main inspirations is New York City. In Soho, Roy was exposed to street art, such as murals, street fashion, different architecture, and many different artists that impacted his mindset and vision. New York as a whole is just a world of it's own. At first, he wanted to become a fashion designer, designing clothing and not actually constructing the pieces but rather creating ideas and working with graphic designers. He decided to not do that because many other people were doing it. Roy is an individualist who doesn’t like to go with the flow and this is why he appreciates media and street art so much. For him, making media art is a form of freedom where he isn’t told what to do, he can be his own boss, take things into his own hands and be able to express himself and others as well. Art is a visual language in which any human can understand. Visualization is the new form of language; we as humans would rather see than read or listen. Some of his biggest inspirations are Keith Haring, Kaws, Bansky and Picasso with a fascination for pop art, surrealism, neo-expressionism and abstract art. He hopes to open his own Arcade business in somewhere like Astoria and use his Emerging Media degree to promote and advertise it through the means of production. Skating is also another way he finds inspiration and wants to get into street photography and make skate parts. In summary, Roy is a person who appreciates everything related to street art and is something that is not only reflected in his persona but also in his work.
